The current state of the non-profit industry includes limited resources in rural settings, and Rockbridge County is no exception. STAR is designed to meet the service needs not already available in our area through collaboration with multiple community resources and organizations. These partnerships with animal rescue programs and Rockbridge County community health programs will identify and match qualifying dogs with people living with PTSD and/or diabetes. By certifying displaced dogs to support persons with PTSD and/or diabetes, self-sufficiency and quality of life will improve for everyone involved. Training and certifying pet therapy dogs and volunteers will also enhance community support throughout Rockbridge County.
